Jan/Feb 2026

— There is now a “Roth in-plan conversion” process where federal employees can convert savings from Traditional TSP to Roth TSP.

— 2026 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for FERS retirees: 2.0%

— 2026 COLA for CSRS retirees: 2.8%

— TSP standard contribution limit for 2026: $24,500

— TSP additional catch-up contribution limit (ages 50+): $8000

— TSP “super-catch-up” allowed for ages 60-63.  Limit: $11,250 (meaning an additional $3250 above the standard catch-up limit)

— Rate increases for group life insurance are likely this year

— Health insurance (FEHB) rates increased by about 12%

May 2026

— Admin is trying to apply a 2026 Pay Freeze and to cancel the Cost of Living Adjustment for early 2027

— Layoffs may be coming to USPS this year

June 2026

— Proposed 2027 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA): 3.6%

— BACKLOG UPDATE: Digital retirement applications may take about 50 days for processing.  Paper applications may take 100 days.
